Capacity building and Training

This work package focuses on capacity-building activities, revolving around the training of doctoral and masters-level graduate students and other junior research scientists involved in the execution of the clinical trial work packages. Under this work package, there will be training, mentoring and capacity building for PhD students, MPhil students, as well as other scientific staff to equip them with skills in conducting high-quality research in sub-Saharan Africa that meets international standards. This will ultimately ensure the capacity development and retention of early and mid-career scientists in sub-Saharan African countries in order to make an impact in the fight against poverty-related diseases.

It is expected that capacity building will be achieved through seminars, workshops, conferences and hands-on practice of scientific procedures necessary to enhance research skills in conducting high-quality research efficiently and effectively. Improving the capacity of individual researchers through training courses will help them to develop the needed skills. Building research capacity that meets international standards will help produce a critical pool of researchers who are able to make use of their knowledge and techniques gained to develop strategies, tools, and methods to tackle diseases that are endemic to Ghana and sub-Saharan African countries. Areas of training will include but are not limited to grant writing, bio-statistics, training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research proposal writing and publication skills.
